About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Technical Manager, this position is primarily responsible for the provision of new product designs to meet customer and market needs and associated project management activities and facilitating commercial outcomes for the DSI business.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Your key duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • New product design from product concept, through functional assessment, prototyping, validation, final design and documented release for commercialisation;
  • Engineering analysis, calculations and modelling to ensure that designs meet the demands of their intended usage and service life;
  • Drive product design projects to achieve clear, documented business and commercial outcomes;
  • Develops relevant methods and jig designs to enable product testing. Ensures all test procedures, results and conclusions are documented in comprehensive written reports;
  • Organises and technically co-ordinates product trials, in conjunction with DSI Sales and relevant customer site contacts, including reporting;
  • Attends customer sites, including underground and civil, as required.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity you will possess:

  • Ideally minimum two years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Tertiary qualifications in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering - ideally degree or associate diploma;
  • High proficiency in the use of recent Autodesk software releases – Inventor, Autocad and Vault;
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately research, interpret and apply information from mechanical drawings, relevant standards and other associated technical data;
  • Experience and capability in preparing and writing comprehensive technical reports and procedures;
  • Ability to operate (or learn to operate) departmental equipment, including tensile tester, hardness tester, profile imaging, XRF and other measurement and testing devices;
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office software skills – specifically Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Ability to follow and also develop and document standard systems of work;
  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal;
  • Sound interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work effectively with others - as an internal team member, across departments and interfacing with external organisations.

Experience in metal manufacturing industry will be highly regarded.
