An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Automotive Applications Engineer who is truly passionate about what they do to join our friendly team at our global Research Centre based in Croydon South and take charge of our next generation of products.

 

Your role will include:

  • Focusing on software development for M1 ECU applications, ranging from engine control software for petrol and diesel engines to electric vehicle and vehicle control applications. You will use MoTeC’s M1 Build software development tool, which provides a Visual Studio style programming environment, and will:
  • Contribute in the development and maintenance of projects. This covers any literature reviews, benchmark tests and software testing (on the bench, dyno or in-vehicle) to bring projects to market.
  • Provide support to the customer support group, and to external customers.
  • Update and maintain resources (manuals, presentation slides, seminar notes, exercises, etc).
  • Assist in any reverse engineering work that is required to be done on OEM systems.
  • Assist Engineering staff with electronic hardware development. This may include collaboration on test fixtures, provision of target hardware, and development testing.
  • Reverse engineering of vehicle CAN messaging as required.
  • Reverse engineering of Vehicle electromechanical components (DBW, CAM, Fuel Pump, injectors, Ignition etc)

 

You will also need to possess the following skills/qualifications:

  • Degree qualifications in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Strong programming experience in C, C++, C# or Java
  • Experience in OEM Engine control system programming or closed-loop industrial control system programming
  • Experience in or knowledge of vehicle body systems (ABS, Stability Control, DSG,  etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience with CAN messaging tools and CAN database documentation (eg. Vector .dbc).
  • Demonstrable practical knowledge of engine system behaviour and vehicle calibration skills  (eg cam control, boost control, gear shifting, direct injection)
  • Knowledge or experience of Diesel engine systems.
  • Knowledge or experience of EV (electric vehicle) systems.
  • Knowledge or experience of electronic control system design and diagnosis, including
  • Sensors and actuators
  • Wiring looms and schematics
  • Fluency with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong skills in documenting technical information especially intended for end users with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in carrying out technical presentations to an audience
