Electronic Warfare Engineer

My client is looking for an Electronic Warfare Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience to join their team.


As part of the ISS Engineering development and support team, you will be responsible and accountable for engineering development and support of a variety of Electronic Warfare products and systems in Operational Service.
Under the scope of the Engineering Delegation conferred by the company Engineering Director, the responsibilities of the ISS Engineering Manager include:

  1. Oversee and manage technical development of any product upgrades that result from customer requested product enhancements, maintenance activity or obsolescence recovery, ensuring this is achieved within cost and schedule constraints;
  2. Ensure the cross functional engineering team (comprising hardware, software, firmware, and logistics engineers) adhere to Ultra’s standard engineering processes, procedures and tools;
  3. Review and approve product drawings and maintain all design, development, test and implementation, and product maintenance phases including, hardware and software configuration management systems, software build processes, coding standards and debuggers;
  4. Chair formal technical reviews and audits with the customer as required, including design reviews, verification and production readiness reviews, physical and functional configuration audits;
  5. Manage the hardware and software product configuration baselines, including the Engineering Change Proposal preparation and customer liaison for class 1 product changes and management of the project internal ISS Configuration Control Board (CCB);
  6. Oversee the development, review and approval of all contract technical CDRLs;
  7. Monitor and manage project technical risks, developing appropriate mitigation strategies to meet project delivery requirements;
  8. Provide Engineering Support and guidance to the Maintenance Support team comprising technical staff located at Ultra and Fleet Base West; and
  9. Collaborate and add value to other Ultra projects through participation in peer reviews.


Key Competency Requirements:

  1. Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering processes in an Australian Defence context (specifically within the field of Electronic Warfare);
  2. Demonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplined engineering project team to deliver quality outcomes on time and within cost constraints;
  3. Demonstrated Experience in an Authorised Engineering Organisation or equivalent environment;
  4. Demonstrated technical experience in the following areas:
  1. embedded real-time systems;
  2. RF/Communications Receiver Systems;
  3. Signal Processing techniques and preferably Software Defined Radio systems;
  4. Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems; and
  5. SDLC software development methodologies.
  1. Demonstrated commitment to WHS procedures and practices.


Qualification & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering (or equivalent);
  2. At least 10 year's experience and at least 5 year's experience as the Systems Engineer on a project involving embedded software design and development;
  3. At least 3 year's demonstrated team leadership experience in a product design, development and support environment;
  4. Substantial familiarity with the processes and Engineering governance requirements in developing product for the Australian Defence Organisation.
  5. Hold a Defence security clearance of at least NV1.
