Due to the growth of our business and an expanded portfolio of projects, an exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Senior Structural Technician to join our team.

As part of the Buildings team, this role covers a broad range of skills relating to the technical production and development of drawing/model-based engineering design deliverables. The primary focus of this role is to contribute to developing the Buildings Structures services of our business, supporting our clients and building a profitable Buildings team.

The Senior Structural Technician will undertake design, project management and consulting services within Buildings Structures, in order to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will:

  • Undertake modelling and drafting activities for the Building Structures team;
  • Provide technical input on total project delivery for a broad range of projects within the Structures area;
  • Provide technical input on such projects, both in the design and construction phases;
  • Prepare project reports for clients;
  • Collaborate on similar projects undertaken by other Arup offices within the Australasia Division where engineering design services are not available;
  • Work with autonomy on defined tasks or projects, with limited supervision;
  • Be accountable for submitting high quality work and checking the work of others to ensure that it is accurate and meets quality standards;
  • Be responsible for producing routine letters, reports and documents from standard templates;
  • Be organised and efficient when carrying out tasks in order to meet set deadlines;
  • Be responsible for assisting the development of other staff through knowledge sharing.


You will have demonstrated:

  • 5-10 years’ relevant experience in the consulting engineering environment;
  • Ability to undertake design work;
  • Proficient in more than one of these following packages: AutoCAD, Revit or Tekla software and may be considered an expert in at least one of these;
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with Revit Structures/Tekla;
  • Recognised relevant qualifications;
  • Relevant industry experience within a consulting business environment;
  • Working towards membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or credit towards eligibility for membership;
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines – and Arup’s related procedures including OH&S.


With recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Structural Engineering or Drafting (University or TAFE qualification), you will be able to demonstrate your experience in design, project management and implementation in your field, within a consulting business environment.

You will possess demonstrated excellent attention to detail along with high-level verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, you will have proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.

Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership will be highly regarded.
