Position description

HeliMods is seeking graduate and junior aero, mech and mechatronic engineers who have a real passion for technology and innovation.

If successful, you will be working on exciting new products for our civil and military clients, and will be responsible within your team for timely, high quality delivery against challenging project targets.

You will have the opportunity to learn from internationally experienced aero-mech engineers, get hands on with state-of-the-art airframes in our world-class facility, and use the best available technology.

We have a flat organisational structure that enables each individual to contribute to their full potential, allowing the best ideas to rise to the top through open communication and collaboration.

We’re looking to find a mutually beneficial path for your development that utilises your passions and grows your skillset while delivering a diverse range of outputs that are critical to the organisation’s performance.

We’re going to expect a lot from you, and we want you to expect a lot of yourself. However, you’ll also have the support of a team of motivated, talented and experienced colleagues, all striving for a common purpose.

We’re explicitly targeting these attributes

  • Bachelors, masters or PHD qualification in your chosen engineering field. While excellent grades are looked upon favourably, so too will a strong history of extracurricular design and engineering activity.
  • An ability to learn quickly, apply engineering principles, and exercise logic to solve complex technical problems.
  • The energy, determination and initiative required to excel, and to proactively overcome industries’ toughest challenges.
  • The creativity, curiosity and open-mindedness to explore alternative approaches, question conventional thinking, and adapt to change.
  • The people skills and collaborative focus that brings out the best in yourself and others within small, dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A structured approach to working with an ability to deliver despite ambiguity that allows you to thrive in a highly autonomous environment.

Preferably, you would also have

  • International work or study experience.
  • A qualification in finance, commerce or business.

A typical day on-site

Unlike many traditional engineering firms, our graduates can have an immediate impact in a broad range of areas, with boundless potential to direct their growth over time. This can include:

  • Brainstorming options for a new product concept with your project team.
  • Developing digital and physical prototypes using CAD, augmented reality and 3D printing.
  • Creating detailed CAD and FEA of a product and its assemblies before release to manufacture and certification.
  • Conducting research on technical methods to tackle difficult engineering challenges, or on automated systems to increase our repeatability, quality and productivity.
  • Working with the onsite production team to oversee one of your designs through the manufacturing process, followed by 3D scanning verification.
  • Supporting fast turn-around design approvals to allow new products to be integrated across helicopter fleets.

Our top performers

  • Deliver outstanding work with minimum guidance.
  • Manage time and priorities efficiently and effectively.
  • Are multi-disciplined and adapt quickly to the needs of the situation.
  • Provide sound, well considered technical input.
  • Thrive under pressure, and expect a lot of themselves.

To be considered, please provide the following

  • Your CV and academic transcripts, with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2nd class honors.
  • A 1-page (500 word) cover letter that articulates how you think you would best contribute to the organisations’ success, and how this aligns with your personal ambitions.
  • A personal portfolio of your work, demonstrating your passion for design, technology and engineering (PowerPoint format, 3 slides, minimal text, we’re looking for amazing content and presentation, bonus points for extra-curricular activity).

This intake is applicable for those who are looking to join immediately, or are graduating at the end of 2018 with intent to start in late 2018/early 2019. Expressions of interest are also welcome for a 2018/2019 summer internship.

Return your application to [email protected] by 16-08-2018 with the following email title: ‘HeliMods Graduate Engineer application – “YOUR NAME”’.

We appreciate the time and effort that goes into each application. However, due to the volume of applications received, only shortlisted persons will be contacted directly. Please also note that incomplete applications may not be considered, and applicants must have the rights at the time of application to work and live in Australia.
