Southern Waste Solutions
Southern Waste Solutions is a Local Government owned entity that manages a regional landfill and operates a waste transfer station in southern Tasmania. SWS also undertakes a number of waste related activities including managing the transport of waste from its own and other contracted waste transfer stations.
This full-time position is based at our waste transfer station in Derwent Park with travel to the Copping Landfill, Scamander and Southbridge waste transfer stations when required.
The successful applicant’s duties will include:
- operating the C Cell using relevant plant and equipment and maintaining associated electronic and paper-based records, processes and procedures;
- operating, supervising, servicing, modifying and maintaining other waste management plant and equipment plus walking-floor trailers, pumps, compactors and mobile plant; and
- acting as Foreman during periods of staff leave and absences.
The successful applicant will have:
- an excavator licence with a minimum of two years’ experience;
- a current drivers’ licence;
- experience with document control/records management and be computer literate;
- a demonstrated ability to successfully manage and operate a site with minimal supervision and be capable of supervising staff and contractors on day-to-day duties whilst leading a positive team;
- a demonstrated ability to implement and monitor practices and operate plant and equipment as per an operations manual;
- a sound knowledge of workplace health and safety, asset management and risk principles
- the capacity to be on call to deal with emergency callouts out of hours.
An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Overtime may on occasions be required in accordance with a regular roster.
