SMBC is a major international bank and the Australian operation has enjoyed strong revenue and asset growth with corporate and institutional clients.

An opportunity has become available for a Senior FX Marketer to join the FX Sales team in the Treasury Department in Sydney branch. This position is responsible for managing foreign exchange transactions and any other financial product as required for SMBC’s customers. In addition, this position will enhance relationships with customers by ensuring high-level customer service and supporting the promotion of treasury products to maximize customer dealing.

Reporting to Head of FX Sales, this position will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

• Provide guidance and leadership to team members.
• Assist Sydney Branch to perform well through effective internal collaboration.
• Communicate with clients and targets of SMBC including Financial Institutions regarding their requirements and present solutions.
• Prepare sales promotion material.
• Ensure that risks and limits are managed in line with SMBC guidelines and policies.
• Ensure that transactions are completed in a professional manner and in-line with SMBC guidelines, policies, and required timelines.
• Generate system registration to maintain market & credit risks.
• Maintain control of risks within the limits set by Head Office.
• Comply with SMBC policy and procedures in undertaking the role.
• Achieve income target as set by Sydney branch.
• Report directly and immediately to the Senior Vice President Head of Treasury or Head of FX Sales for any problems, irregularities or substantial loss that may arise.
• Mainly manage foreign exchange transactions of SMBC’s non-Japanese customers and foreign exchange and deposits of Japanese corporate clients for those who have a local treasurer.
• FX Price quoting for customers.
• Conduct FX interbank cover.
• Develop products/product enhancements to meet customer needs.
• Promote Treasury products (including deposits) to customers and maximize business opportunities.
• Support other team members, and cover his/her duties during their absence.
• Maintain and develop relationships with customers and financial institutions.
• Undertake other reasonable tasks requested and/or assigned by Senior Vice President, Head of FX Sales and/or SVP, Head of Treasury after consultation.
• Understand information about domestic and global regulators.
• Full compliance with SMBC policies, procedures and the laws and policies of the relevant regulator.
• Maintain necessary accreditation and undertake training as required for the role.

To succeed in this role you will have:

• Minimum 8 -10 years banking and finance experience.
• Minimum 8 years Foreign Exchange marketing and execution experience.
• Tertiary qualifications majoring in banking and finance.
• Strong financial and analytical skills.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Experience of developing key stakeholder relationships within a business.
• Strong written and verbal skills.
• Appropriate industry accreditation. (AFMA)
• Team player.

High-level knowledge of Australian Banking standards, as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements (E.g. APRA) etc. would be advantageous.
