About ARTC

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is a vital part of the transport supply chain and the economic development of Australia. Working across five states, they maintain 8,500km of rail network to deliver cost efficient, reliable and safe transport. ARTC Hunter Valley is responsible for managing rail infrastructure maintenance, capital upgrades and the movement of trains on the Hunter Valley rail network, including coal networks.

The Job Opportunity

Reporting into the Finance Specialist, these positions will provide management accounting and financial support to the business, including monthly management accounts, forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis. In addition, you will assist with ad hoc requests such as business models and other financial assessments (including revenues, operating and capital).

The roles will assist with ensuring inputs for the Hunter Valley Access Undertaking (HVAU) compliance and models are accurate, complete and provided in a timely manner.


Additional responsibilities include (not limited to):

• Provide oversight, forecasting and monitoring of Hunter Valley delivery business units.

• Provide input to the monthly Hunter Valley Business Report(s) through the provision of accruals, project allocations, forecasts and commentary. This responsibility includes profit and loss and balance sheet items as they are recorded in the financial and forecasting system.

• Manage the budgets including the establishment of timetables, commentary and the documentation of assumptions and key drivers.

• Provide strategic insight and support business case proposals to Budget Investment Committee.

• Develop strong relationships with Project Managers and engineering staff

• Provide analytical services to the business to assist in decision making, whilst also drawing management’s attention to current/emerging issues and their possible financial impact.

• Investigate the financial implications of operational matters impacting on ARTC’s profitability; develop solutions to ensure financial data is appropriately captured, in conjunction with the Finance Specialist.

• Independently review areas of major expenditure and variances to budget providing reconciliations and improvement suggestions to the relevant Managers and the Finance Specialist, including cost saving initiatives.

• Ensure compliance and assist with the ACCC reporting inputs for inclusion into HVAU Models and the Regulated Asset Base (RAB).


ACCOUNTABILITIES

• The provision of accurate reporting, forecasting and budgeting for ARTC.

• Proactive forward thinking with the provision of advice on current and emerging trends.

• Demonstrate strong team membership skills.

• Compliance with ARTC’s finance and corporate procedures and policies.

• Promote a safety culture within the team to conform with current Work Health and Safety (WH&S) and relevant Rail Safety legislation.

• Ensure compliance with ARTC’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities.

• Ensure integrity of finance systems and reporting.


The Successful Candidate

• Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or a business-related discipline.

• CPA / CA membership.

• Extensive management accounting, budget, forecast and cost functions of a commercial orientation.

• Extensive knowledge of Excel and ERP Systems.

• Knowledge of Ci Financials is desirable but not essential.
