Opening in November 2016, Metropolis Events has quickly established itself as one of the hottest event spaces in Melbourne to host gala events, cocktail parties, wedding receptions, product launches, private parties, conferences and corporate events with a difference.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven corporate event Sales Manager to join our team for an initial 12 month maternity leave contract commencing in August (with possible extensions).

The primary focus of this role is to manage and drive conversions for incoming corporate enquiries and maintain and grow our existing key accounts whilst achieving individual KPI’s and contributing to the overall team budget.

You will be able to demonstrate your ability to build strong, ongoing relationships and will possess the confidence and professionalism to represent Metropolis at networking events, client entertaining and industry exhibitions.

Your approach to sales is strategic and solution based; you are a lateral thinker, active listener and clear communicator. You ask key questions allowing you to anticipate client needs based on their desired event outcomes, recommend and advise on suitable solutions and ultimately, provide a truly tailored and seamless experience resulting in repeat business and a positive reputation.

The details

  • Manage incoming corporate enquiries via telephone and email
  • Maintain key account relationships and identify and drive new business within these accounts
  • Preparation of accurate proposals and contract documents ensuring a 24 hour turnaround on all correspondence
  • Conduct venue site inspections and client meetings
  • Follow up quotes, contract and deposit payments in a timely manner
  • Effectively negotiate and yield the space based on venue demand and peak periods
  • Maintain database and sales activities within CRM system (Ungerboeck)
  • Create floorplans using Visio software
  • Assist Business Development Manager with implementing business development and client entertaining initiatives

About you

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role within a premium venue, catering or hotel environment 
  • Proven experience in meeting KPI’s and budgets within an event sales environment
  • Exceptional organisation skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion and ability to inspire, engage and influence others
  • Existing relationships with key suppliers
  • Team oriented with a positive and happy demeanour  
  • Tertiary qualification in hospitality, events or similar discipline is highly desirable
