Based at our Moorebank head office we currently have an opportunity for an experienced Work Health and Safety Advisor. Reporting to the Head of People & Performance, this position is responsible for the delivery of advice and support to management and employees on managing WHS in the workplace.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Developing, maintaining and continuous improvement of WHS and injury management policies, documentation and procedures, including employee manuals, checklists and guidance notices
  • Ensure that effective policies, procedures, systems and services are in place to provide and maintain the highest levels of safety awareness, workplace injury prevention and rehabilitation across all the operations and functions
  • Coordination of WHS activities across the business and assist with the development and implementation of key health and safety strategies
  • Drive a strong safety culture across the organisation and be exceptional at building relationships, influencing line managers, and leading change
  • Assisting with the facilitation of internal/external audits and risk management operations ensuring compliance, monitoring outcomes and follow-up as required
  • Planning, developing and delivering WHS-related training as required
  • Proactively identify and assess current and emerging WHS issues and ensure that appropriate control measures are considered
  • Providing training and guidance to the work health and safety committee and coordinating their reporting requirements to ensure they have the skills to identify risks, operate and report effectively
  • Administration and maintenance of the incident reporting and management system
  • Assist with the reporting and investigation of incidents and hazard management
  • Ensuring that WHS training records are maintained
  • Support People & Performance with general administrative and human resources tasks as required

Skills and experience

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Min. 5 years' experience in a WHS Advisor role including workers' compensation and rehabilitation management experience 
  • Tertiary level qualifications in WHS (or working towards)
  • NSW Return to Work certification
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable) 
  • Current working knowledge and understanding of federal and state/territory legislation, regulations, standards, and codes of practice
  • Experience and success in managing organisational risks by implementing and maintaining robust WHS management systems and processes
  • Demonstrated success in both coordinating and leading effective WHS initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to influence work groups to ensure a safety-focused culture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with management and key stakeholders
  • Ability to facilitate change with an approach to addressing problems and opportunities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
