About the role

The Manager –Aged Care Safety & Wellness, is a key leader and member of The Salvation Army Senior Leadership Team. The key responsibilities of the role are to support the Executive Manager – Care Services and Governance through effective management of operational risk, regulatory compliance, work health and safety initiatives, and policy framework.

Key objectives of the position include:

  • Leadership and input to strategic governing to ensure the organisations’ quality improvement system consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving the outcomes of care and service delivery.
  • Development, renewal and consistent implementation of operational risk management framework to ensure risks are identified, managed to acceptable control levels or mitigation actions
  • Liaise with Aged Care Plus systems for external service providers and provide advice and input to ensure ensure safe practice and risk managed operations within PCBU negotiations and pre-screening, contracts and systems of induction and risk planning.
  • Ensure that all WHS and injury management policies and procedures are documented and maintained
  • Safety systems are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents/ customers/ employees / key stakeholders/ volunteers and contractors.
  • Emergency and disaster management systems supports safe and well prepared practice Review, implement and monitor the implementation of a strong aged care WHS management framework that is consistent with legislative and organisational requirements, to which organisational learning and strategy is embedded thereby improving safety and risk management approaches in the business. This includes but not exclusive to; internal and external reviews, continuous improvement plans, audits, systems and relevant strategic objectives.
  • Assist with maintenance of relationships with key external education providers and liaise with regulatory agencies as appropriate.
  • Complete reporting, management, root cause analysis and provide leadership on safety and risk management topics
  • Create and support an engaged and consultative culture for safety and wellness


About You 

To be considered for this important role, you must have:

  • A commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army. An ability to offer pastoral assistance, to offer prayer and to explain the Christian Gospel
  • Post graduate university qualifications in management, quality, human resources, safety, risk management or related field - IS9001, Quality Agency, WHS Auditing, and/ or EQUIP ACHS credentialing will be highly regarded
  • Significant experience in a senior operational or executive management role, working as a safety manager with a thorough understanding of safety principles 
  • Comprehensive WHS incident investigation and audit skills - Ability to design, develop and produce timely and accurate WHS reports and metrics collating across jurisdictions and data integrity variations
  • Demonstrated strategic and lateral thinking focus with the ability to identify, analyse and interpret complex data and develop appropriate safety management strategies to achieve long term functional and organisational goals
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, policy development and implementation
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and management of organisational safety management plans and frameworks
  • An ability to work co-operatively to implement change, providing support and leadership
  • Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills - ability to manage key stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy
  • Ability and willingness to travel inter/intrastate as required
  • Willingness and ability to take on-call requirements on rotation as requested
