Weatherzone is seeking a proactive and motivated Data Processing Developer to join our Operations Department. You will be joining the Data Team in its role in developing and supporting applications that process multiple forms of weather data.

As a part of the Operations Department, the Data Processing Developer will have primary responsibility for investigating, diagnosing and resolving the wide variety of data-related technical issues that affect our customers. You will be motivated by solving problems for clients and seeing issues through to their final resolution. You will have excellent communication skills and will be comfortable relating on both a technical and non-technical level with all stakeholders.

You will work together with data, infrastructure and development teams on processing systems to support our websites and mobile apps that provide millions of customers with the latest weather information.

While the successful candidate will have several years of data processing and database experience, their analytical, problem solving and communication skills will be the primary criteria by which they are selected.

The Data Processing Developer will work closely with our Development, Sales and Forecast Systems Team to provide an excellent user experience to our clients across a wide breadth of industries, including Aviation, Energy, Mining and B2C.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop solutions to meet business requirements using industry best practice development methodologies

• Create unit tests for all solutions prior to production release

• Develop appropriate documentation associated with solutions

• Proactive monitoring of business systems

• Resolve customer and user problems that relate to the technical performance of the systems

• Provide rostered business and after hours support to customers to ensure proper operation of the business

• Ensure the products and services always meet the expectations of our customers

• Assist sales team with technical expertise

• Improve the quality of our products and services

Required Skills and Experience:

• Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to both technical and non-technical staff

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

• 3+ years experience with relational databases, MySQL preferable

• 3+ years working in technical support

• 3+ years experience with Perl

• Experience in Windows environments

• Experience with scripting on Unix environments

• Experience with Cloud-based services, specifically AWS

• High energy level – displays enthusiasm and self motivation

• Experience in writing and interpreting technical documentation

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Exposure to weather and weather related data / systems

• Cross-browser and platform support experience

• Experience writing stored procedures

• Experience with web services (RESTful, JSON / XML)

• Experience writing regular expressions

• Experience with socket processing

• 3+ years experience with version control software
