Women's and Children's Hospital and implementation of an Electronic Medical Record as part of the Cerner Millennium Project.
The implementation of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is Western Health’s next step towards significantly improving and transforming the way we provide care for our community and patients. Western Health’s EMR will provide clinicians with a consolidated view of all relevant information about the patient to facilitate teamwork reduce medical errors and support clinical decision making. It will also simplify and support clinician workflow, and provide access to best practice knowledge, empowering our clinicians with the tools to enhance the delivery of Best Care.
Phase one of Western Health’s 7 - 10 year EMR journey will deliver:
- structured clinical notes,
- medications prescribing and administration
- pathology and radiology orders and results; and
- A supporting core system.
About the Role
The purpose of this role is to provide support and ongoing development of the EMR systems to ensure that use by clinical staff is optimised and continuously improving to enable provision of the highest quality of care possible to patients of Western Health.
At a high level the position is responsible for the Cerner Millennium modules and functionality that support clinical documentation. These are Clinical Documentation with iView, PowerChart, PowerPlan, PowerOrders, Dynamic Documentation and Medication Process.
This is a full time ongoing position. The initial 6 months will be as part of the implementation project team and thereafter the role will form part of the operational support team. Relevant Cerner training (held in Melbourne or Sydney CBD) will need to be completed at the commencement of the role and there will be a requirement to participate in an after-hours and weekend roster during the go live period (November 2018 to February 2019).

- Provide technical oversight, direction and expertise to clinical users and other WH EMR stakeholders
- Consult with users on clinical workflows, system interdependencies and design decision impacts
- Drive user specific solution configuration design to meet workflow requirements and make recommendations on design as required
- Actively troubleshoot issues and log service requests for issues that cannot be resolved
- Identify and mitigate solution risks and issues
- Execute workflow and process improvement strategies
Essential Criteria (see position description for full list)
- An information technology or clinical solutions background with an interest in computerised workflows, clinical documentation, and Healthcare Informatics.
- Ability to work both independently and in a complex team environment; collaborate with external and internal professionals and other customers.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and deliver against tight deadlines
- Skills in prioritisation, problem solving, organization, decision-making, time management, and planning.

- Experience with Cerner Millennium, in particular the modules that support clinical documentation
- Experience with other EMR systems and computerised clinical applications.
- An understanding of clinical workflows in the acute and sub-acute inpatient
