About the role
The Listing Search Experience team (LSX) within the PSW tribe is looking for a Developer to join us and help build the systems and applications that will help drive REA forward on its mission to 'change the way the world experiences property'.

We are looking for a passionate and talented software engineer to join us and contribute to our system of work. We love experimenting and innovating using cutting edge technologies. You'll be deeply involved in the design and development of the systems that let REA create new search solutions for our consumers.

What the role is all about:

• Designing, implementing, testing and deploying new software products using a variety of technologies and platforms - Scala, Docker, Elasticsearch, AWS, ReactJS, GraphQL, GIT, Buildkite
• Contributing to the overall technical solution design
• Managing and maintaining existing systems in line with our product custodianship strategy
• Participating in engineering practices that produce testable, maintainable products to be proud of
• You will play a role in the continual advancement of our agile engineering practices within this team.
• Learning and development is a key part in this role. We learn as well as teach

What we’re looking for

• Approximately 3+ years’ experience in a software development role.
• Experience with OO and/or functional languages such as Java, Scala, Ruby, Javascript
• Experience or a working knowledge of Scala is a bonus
• Worked in an agile environment or a good understanding of agile practices.
• An appetite to work on back-end systems predominantly - with limited front end work when required
• An understanding of common development techniques like TDD
• Knowledge of software design patterns and best practices for software development
• Open to learning other languages and frameworks that support our technical direction

Within the LSX team specifically, we are a team that lives, breathes and gets excited about the way in which consumers interact with the search component of our site. Our aim is to make search world class, using Scala, Functional programming and Elasticsearch on our journey. We are predominantly a backend team but at times do a little front end development in ReactJS.

We are invested in ensuring that the systems we developed can be easily supported and customisable. We also understand the importance of custodianship in our commitment to keeping REA systems functional.

We believe strongly in pairing, testing and continuous delivery, mixed with large doses of fun (including many cake driven celebrations). We are supportive of people that work part time.
