The Digital Design Manager (BIM) is a newly created role within APAM and will play a critical function in our journey to become a digital airport of the future. The successful candidate will drive the technology transition at APAM, moving the business away from traditional CAD and into a digital organisation where asset information management will be shared across the business through an integrated, collaborative Common Data Environment. The role will work together with the existing team to maintain all As-Built / As-Constructed drawings and documentation, while engaging with consultants and contractors to deliver our future assets to our new design standard. In addition, the role is also responsible for developing and managing the APAM digital design standard, ensure stakeholder buy-in and compliance by third party consultants and contractors to deliver a federated, coordinated and integrated digital design model of Melbourne Airport.
 
Key Responsibilities Include but not limited to:
  • Develop the airport digital design model and keep up to date by incorporating new assets designs into the airports federated digital design model, in line with the KPIs and carrying out surveys of new / altered facilities and services while incorporating the information into the master digital design model.
  • Maintain As-built asset documentation up to date.
  • Build strong relationships with business partners to deliver exceptional service to internal and external clients using half yearly qualitative surveys to measure the performance of the team.
  • Manage the CAD and BIM providers and site survey function which include monitoring day to day workflow - receiving, prioritising & processing requests and outputs along with the management of labour resources and costs in order to achieve delivery of the function
  • Ensure the integrity and security of the database by the establishment of a Quality Assurance system for the delivery of the function, amending it from time to time as may be deemed necessary, and make best endeavours to ensure all Services provided are in accordance with the quality system.
  • Regularly report on performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPI),  the assistance in the development of annual budgets and in the support of digital design systems used at the airport, e.g. Bentley Microstation, Autodesk Revit, others.
  • Work with the GIS Manager to prepare any new drawings as requested and update eGIS with information such as retail and Property lease plans, aircraft parking layouts / apron guidelines plans, taxiway aircraft tracking and line marking plans, method of working plans, evacuation plans, aerodrome emergency plans, overlay controls for land use planning, master plans or other plans for planning purposes.
 
The ideal candidate:
  • Proven experience managing and developing a team of professionals to deliver an asset or product design process and documentation, preferably within the civil construction industry, however experience in automotive and/or aerospace will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing client-facing projects and small teams.
  • Experience and understanding of Bentley Microstation, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks or similar.
  • Ability to accurately report against agreed KPIs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels of the organisation.
  • Customer centric approach to both internal and external stakeholders with the ability to influence and negotiate outcomes.
