The Port of Newcastle is seeking to employ an experienced Spatial Information Specialist to administer, develop and manage its GIS system and associated data. Reporting to the Survey Manager you will be responsible for leading enhancements to existing functionality, identifying customer data needs and co-ordinating data requirements to maintain system integrity. Customer support is a key performance requirement for the role to ensure spatial information services are provided effectively and on-time to end users.
The Port of Newcastle is Australia’s third largest port by trade volumes with over 4,700 shipping movements per year and nearly 167 million tonnes of trade. Recognised globally as the world’s leading coal export port, Port of Newcastle is part of the pit to port supply chain. In addition to the 161 million tonnes of coal exported per year, Port of Newcastle also handles a diverse range of 25 cargoes including bulk liquids, dry bulk, break bulk, project, cruise ship passengers and containers.
You will have
- Significant contemporary knowledge and experience with system administration and management of spatial databases, GIS systems and support platforms (ArcGIS Enterprise, SQL Server, MS Access)
- Strong track record of effective problem solving, customer service and analysing a diverse range of complex data to meet the business objectives and customer requirements
- Proven ability to deliver concise, accurate and user friendly corporate GIS information to a wide audience
- Well rounded communication skills and a high degree of computer literacy
As the Spatial Information Specialist you will be a key member of the Marine & Operations team. Above all, we are seeking a person excited by the challenge to development a GIS system that leads the industry and delivers information to enhance business processes and provide decision support. Tertiary qualified in Surveying/GIS or relevant geographic disciplines, you will have well developed skills to trouble shoot, and make system improvements independently.
The role is Newcastle based and a competitive salary package and employment conditions will be offered.
