Australian Support Dogs Inc. (ASDOG) is seeking a qualified Trainer to board and train our next Assistance Dog. ASDOG is a not-for-profit organisation that raises and trains certified assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities. Our core values include the use of positive reinforcement training techniques, and that the dog is treated as part of the Trainer’s family and lives indoors with the Trainer.

Trainer Requirements:

◦       Formal training qualifications / certification (Cert III or equivalent experience)

◦       Committed to using +R/positive reinforcement techniques exclusively

◦       Allow the dog to live in your home with you, no confinement to crate/kennel

◦       Proven ability to teach complex tasks (e.g. clean up, retrieve named object)

◦       Have a valid driver's licence and access to vehicle

◦       Minimise the time that the dog is left alone (preferably <4 hours at a time)

◦       Have or willing to apply for an ABN and able to invoice ASDOG as a contractor

◦       Member of APDT, PPGA or equivalent

Position details:

·      Paid contract position for 12 months minimum

·      ASDOG pays daily boarding fee, plus all dog/ASDOG related expenses

·      ASDOG pays an hourly rate for training: 5 or 6 hours per week is anticipated.

·      Trainer should be based in the Sydney metropolitan area
