Youth Worker - Specialist Homeless Services

The role
Samaritans Youth Homelessness Support Services are searching for a Youth Worker to join the team on a Casual basis, based at the Maitland or Elermore Vale refuges.
The Youth Worker supports the goals of the wider Samaritans organisation in a person centred and collaborative manner to ensure that people who are at imminent risk of homelessness are supported in secure accommodation options. The Service also works with people who are homeless to re-house them in a rapid and safe manner as well as working with those who are in crisis to provide them with safe and secure accommodation, together with supporting them to secure and access safe housing.

The ideal candidate
We are looking for diligent individuals who are experienced in supporting people in a range of ways dependent upon the needs of each individual, whilst working within relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and frameworks to achieve positive outcomes for the people they are supporting. To be successful, you’ll also have:
- An ability to use initiative, set priorities, work collaboratively and achieve individual and team goals and targets
- An ability to develop rapport and positive relationships with people we support, stakeholders, colleagues and fellow staff members
- Computer skills of a high standard, especially in MS Office software, e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, and the internet.
The essential requirements
Criteria to be addressed in your application:
- Certificate III in Youth Work; Certificate III in Home and Community Services or higher, or equivalent experience
- Experience in, or demonstrated commitment to, actively supporting young people at risk of homelessness
- Demonstrated awareness of, and willingness to operate under the Strengths-Based, Trauma-Informed Approach and Person-Centered Planning principles
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues involved in working with at risk young people and a commitment to Social Justice
- Ability to use initiative, set priorities, work collaboratively and achieve individual and team goals and targets
- Proven ability to develop rapport and positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and fellow staff members

This position is classified under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, as Crisis Accommodation Employee Level 1.
