An opportunity now exists to join the InvoCare Funeral Team as a Mortuary and Funeral Director's Assistant based at our Operations Centre in North Perth.

The Mortuary Assistant is a member of the mortuary team and assists in providing funeral services to the local community. The Mortuary Assistant actively contributes to a friendly and positive working environment where business outcomes, customer service, and staff cooperation are the focus.

The Mortuary Assistant reports to the Mortuary Manager to:

  • Support operations by providing best practice in the preparation and presentation of deceased persons
  • Provide mortuary services in the time frames necessary for viewings and funerals in accordance with InvoCare policies, procedures and quality standards as well as Occupational Health, Safety and Injury Management requirements
  • Assist with embalming, as trained and as required.

These responsibilities are achieved through competent mortuary skills, which are used to assist the funeral team to deliver quality customer service consistent with the needs, situations and wishes of each family. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Perform body preparation procedures such as manoeuvring, lifting, washing, dressing, suturing and setting facial features for all cases to InvoCare standards and follow workplace procedures for hygiene and infection control
  • Encoffin and present the deceased to InvoCare standards and according to any special family requests
  • Handle deceased with dignity, care and respect at all times
  • Accurately complete mortuary registration and checking procedures
  • Maintain, clean and sterilise mortuary facilities and equipment
  • Perform coffin/casket trimming and engraving
  • Organise time efficiently and monitor daily work flow
  • Monitor stock levels and order as directed
  • Participate in day-to-day operational tasks such as attending funerals, transfers, viewings, driving vehicles, and keeping work areas clean and tidy

Key skills and experience required for the role will include:

  • An understanding of the funeral service industry and its operations, or ability to rapidly acquire industry knowledge
  • Experience in a mortuary or similar environment desirable
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Current First Aid certificate is desireable
