Peer Carer Support Consultant

This position is responsible for providing services which aims to help carers to be better able to sustain their caring roles; have increased confidence, capacity and choices; and improve the wellbeing of families and carers of people with a mental illness. A particular focus of the program is on assisting participants to achieve their stated vocational goals.
The successful candidate will have
Criteria
- Qualifications in Disability Employment, Community/Mental Health Services and/or extensive equivalent work experience in community based Mental Health Support Services, Employment Agencies or Community Support Providers.
- A sound knowledge of local service networks and social service infrastructure; and capacity to use this knowledge to deliver outcomes for carers.
- The ability to effectively network and develop partnerships with a range of external stakeholders, community organisations and employers is essential.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting carers of people with a mental illness.
- An understanding of the concept of recovery, and practices that are strengths based and culturally sensitive.
- Knowledge and understanding of the barriers to employment experienced by long term unemployed and/or carers of people living with a mental illness.
- Excellent understanding of community services networks and current funded programs across service LGA’s.
- Strong communication, advocacy, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
