About headspace

headspace centres aim to create highly accessible, youth-friendly, integrated service hubs that provide evidence-based interventions and support to young people aged 12–25 years. The aim is to improve outcomes for young people by addressing the major barriers to service use and enabling better access to, and engagement in, early intervention services that provide holistic and integrated care.

headspace Wagga Wagga provides young people with access to Allied Health Professionals and community supports to assist young people to access the support they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence to live healthy and happy lives. headspace Wagga Wagga also engages in community awareness and seeks to develop and implement innovative programs to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the region.  Relationships Australia Canberra & Region is the lead agency for headspace Wagga Wagga and is supported by a Consortium.


About the Role

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Youth Access Worker (YAW) within the headspace program is a full-time position based in headspace Wagga Wagga, NSW. This position is offered on a fixed term contract until 30 June 2019.

Reporting to the headspace Manager, the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander YAW role is responsible for the provision of case management services within the context of an integrated mental health service (headspace Wagga Wagga) for young people and providing a culturally appropriate service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder, or may be at risk of developing one. The position will operate within the operational and geographical boundaries of the headspace Wagga Wagga service.

To be successful in this role, you should be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and possess:

  • Relevant experience and or tertiary qualifications in any of the following disciplines; Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Intensive Assertive Case Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience in case management of young people within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge, experience, understanding and demonstrated passion for, and interest in, the health, issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and welfare issues affecting young people.

Salary & Benefits

The salary on offer is in the range of $66,825.72 to $68,862.56 per annum for fulltime plus superannuation. As a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI), RACR employees also receive tax-effective salary packaging opportunities, thus significantly increasing the value of your take-home pay.

According to the RACR Enterprise Agreement, the successful candidate will have access to generous leave provisions, annual leave loading, and special paid leave during annual holiday shutdown period and flexible working arrangements.
