About the Opportunity

Uniting Disability holds a special opportunity for Support Workers to work in our Respite House located in Belfield. This house offers short term accommodation and supports people between the ages of 7-17 years old who have a disability and display complex behaviours of concern. You will be employed on a casual basis with the opportunity to transition to permanent part time.  

Reporting to the House Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting children and young people in their daily life while they stay at the house. Duties include: 
  • Providing consistent positive behaviour intervention by implementing each child’s unique behaviour support plan or strategy
  • Positive role modelling
  • Implementing routines and structures to support the child's stay at the house
  • Implementing appropriate communication strategies within the house
  • Supporting activities to access and engage with the community
  • Supporting activities within the house which build independent living skills, including but not limited to Personal Care, domestic assistance, meal preparation, and medication administration
  • Working and supporting each of your team mates in achieving the best possible outcomes for the children and young people who access the house
  • Supporting parents, carers and families

Successful candidates are to be resilient, resourceful, innovative and keen to make a positive difference on each young person's life.  You must have excellent interpersonal skills to engage and support participants.

We are looking for candidates who are flexible as the house is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  Shift work is a requirement for this position including active nights, sleep overs and weekends



More about you


  • You will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the disability sector.
  • You will have had experience of working with challenging and complex behavioural needs.
  • You will have a Certificate III or IV in Disability, or an equivalent accreditation in social science/community services.
  • Preferably, you will have experience working with Aboriginal people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds as well as planning, delivering and evaluating services in a culturally competent manner
