Position Information

Kurri Kurri High School is a proud community based comprehensive high school of around 860 students, drawing from within the town and a number of rural communities nearby. The school is a leading innovator of the Hunter Region, offering a transdisciplinary project based learning framework for future focused schooling for students in Stage 4. The Authentic Assessment program for Year 10 students offers an inquiry based model of learning for students. A flexible timetable and extensive curriculum frame the learning for students in Years 11 and 12 to increase retention and success. Our 130 Aboriginal students are supported by a proactive Junior AECG and the development of M-Goals as a platform for personal excellence. Parental and community involvement are key features of the education processes of the school. Kurri Kurri High School promotes individual learning across the curriculum and has established a fully staffed Learning Centre to facilitate and support this. Our vision is to provide a world class global education to all students in our care to create exceptional citizens.

This is an Advisory Position, utilising the Big Picture Education Australia (BPEA) Framework. In 2018, Kurri Kurri High School started its journey with a Stage 6 'Studio School' for students with an interest in moving towards the world of work. This position will holistically work with Stage 6 students in the 'Studio School', delivering English Studies, SLR, General Mathematics and Work Studies, as well as the development of comprehensive work readiness portfolios. The role will encompass the development of strong links with workplaces, to encourage learning through internship and relationships with community mentors to further develop our students' ability to transition to the workplace.Training in BPEA would be beneficial to the role.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach Years 7-12 in English and/or Mathematics, and/or Science, and/or Human Society and its Environment, and/or Creative Arts, and/or Technical and Applied Studies, and/or Physical Development/Health/Physical Education, with a demonstrated capacity to deliver Stage 6 courses.

Deep knowledge of innovative curriculum design and a commitment to professional learning in transformative learning environments.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on the design and implementation of quality teaching and learning in partnership with community stakeholders to support the achievement of individual learning goals.

Demonstrated experience in innovative teaching to guide learning of all students, including students from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, low socio-economic backgrounds and those identified as gifted and talented.

Ability to create a trusting, intellectually stimulating and well organised learning environment, which influences, engages and inspires lifelong learners.

Highly developed communication and ICT skills to nurture and facilitate learning across the curriculum in an alternative education setting.
