About the scholarship:

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University is recognised as a leading criminology school in Australia. First established in 1991, the School has grown to include over 50 academic staff, making it the largest criminology school in the country.

Our research is strongly policy relevant as we work closely with a range of government and community partners to improve knowledge and practice, and with other national and international leaders in our field.

Project Description - Young drivers are constantly over represented in road traffic crashes and road fatalities. Since 1989, young people make up 26% of the fatalities but only 13% of the population in Australia. This research is part of a larger project, the Young Adult Compliance (YAC) project, which is looking at compliance with road traffic laws by provisional drivers and how deterrence theory, procedural justice and partnership policing can be integrated into a theoretical framework to better understand how provisional drivers behave on our roads.

This PhD opportunity will be focusing on a group of more consistent offenders known as ‘young problem drivers’ and the sample for this study will comprise of young drivers who have participated in ‘specialised rehabilitation programs’.
