The McDowall State School P&C Association Outside School Hours Care is one of the largest in Australia. We are requiring an experienced leader who has the ability to drive a hard-working, innovative culture with excellent communication skills and exemplary knowledge of the National Quality Framework and Standards as well as the My Time, Our Place Framework.

The McDowall SS OSHC is situated on the McDowall SS campus in a dedicated building with access to two other buildings: An Activity Building and a Sports Centre as well as a number of large outdoor spaces. It is extremely well resourced with an effective organisational structure that is designed to support the Coordinator of the service in achieving their objectives in an efficient manner.

The McDowall SS P&C Association is an aspiring group who are aiming for high-quality leisure based education for children before and after school and vacation care, for the benefit of the students enrolled in the program and their families.

We are seeking to employ an experienced Educational Leader to design and oversee aspects of the program and implementation within our OSHC service including before and after school and vacation care. We are currently looking for a reliable and motivated staff member to join our management team at our busy Outside School Hours Care service, located at McDowall State School, McDowall located on the North side of Brisbane.

The successful applicants will be committed to creating a safe, welcoming, nurturing and enjoyable environment for primary school aged children. They will also implement activity programs that encourage and support positive outcomes for all children through effective engagement with 'My Time Our Place' Framework for school-age care. You will have a mature outlook, and be a committed and supportive carer.

The role encompasses many aspects of program planning and delivery (Outdoor Education, Creative and Expressive Arts, Nutrition & Sustainability), including day to day implementation at the service.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Provide direction and leadership to educators under the direction and supervision of the Coordinator in supporting children’s growth and development across the five learning outcomes;
  • Be responsible for establishing a leisure-based and holistic program and learning environment that is relevant to the needs, interests and ideas of the school-age children attending;
  • Inform and facilitate the service’s processes for collecting, analysing, interpreting and applying observation and assessment information;
  • Maintain a professional record such as a reflective leadership journal which may include significant moments, educator development/learning and or other observations;
  • Develop positive and respectful relationships with children and families by encouraging involvement in the service program, being available to discuss issues as they arise and in actively seeking feedback from families about the service, its program and other relevant matters such as appropriate and positive behaviour guidance;
  • Consider how the program can be linked to the community by working with other community services such as Aboriginal Elders;
  • Demonstrate high-level knowledge of standards laws and regulations including (but not limited to) the National Quality Framework and its national law system as relative to the effective operation of an OSHC service ensuring all service practice is consistent with these requirements maintaining a strong focus on compliance matters;
  • Ensure the provision of food is in accordance with relevant standards taking into account children’s individual needs and dietary requirements;
  • Demonstrate high-level knowledge of work health and safety and environmental safety requirements ensuring consistent practice and compliance;
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the Coordinator.

Your qualifications:

  • Have completed a certificate III, diploma or higher level qualification in child services or education;
  • Examples of the qualifications under our regulations are Children Services, Education Primary or Secondary Teaching, Psychology, Nursing, Medical, Fitness, Sport, Human/Community Services and Arts;
  • Have working knowledge of current child care legislation, including the MTOP framework and the National Quality Laws and Regulations or the ability to learn quickly;
  • At least 3 years' experience working with children, preferably primary school aged children;
  • Hold Senior First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis management certifications or willing to obtain
  • Hold a valid working with children Blue Card or be willing to obtain one;
  • Ability to lead, manage and develop staff in a team-based environment;
  • Good communication skills and the ability to positively, proactively and regularly engage with staff, families and children;
  • Ability to demonstrate a student-centred approach to leisure-based education;
  • Working knowledge of the QikKids program (including QK Enrol) will be highly regarded but is not essential.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to students from a range of different groups, experiences and backgrounds;
  • A positive, enthusiastic team member with the ability to set goals and prioritise work;
  • The ability to lead and motivate others in a positive and effective manner;
  • An open and friendly disposition.

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday:

  • Before School 6:30 am to 8:45 am
  • After School 2:30pm to 6:45pm
  • Vacation Care (School Holidays) 6:15 am to 6:45 pm
  • Ideally, you will live on the north side of Brisbane and please consider travelling times to and from work before applying
