About Cape York Leaders Program:
The Cape York Leaders Program supports the development of current and future Cape York leaders. Cape York Partnership is committed to empowering talented Indigenous leaders of the region to drive and own the Cape York Agenda by providing them with the necessary leadership skills.
The Academic Leaders phase offers scholarships and support to assist talented Indigenous students enter credible academic institutions and graduate with a standard of excellence
About the role:
The primary responsibilities of this position will be to support students, parents, key stakeholders and members of the community in Brisbane and Rockhampton.
- To recruit eligible students to participate in the Academic Leaders Secondary (ALS) to ensure that the quota scholarship positions are filled at all times.
- Provide support to Academic Leaders Secondary participants that assists in a high retention of students on the ALS Program.
- Provide effective case management to ensure participants have the support they need to achieve their academic and non-academic goals.
- Ensure secondary students receive sufficient support to allow them to prioritise and focus on their academic achievements to gain OP/QCE score and entry into tertiary education.
Essential
- Demonstrated organisational and communication skills.
- Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous young people from remote communities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with young Indigenous people and to develop and maintain appropriate working relationships with client base.
- Sound interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Demonstrated well-developed oral and written communication skills (including computer skills).
- A current driver’s license.
- A knowledge of Australian Indigenous cultures and an ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous Australians and a commitment to their social, economic and cultural development
Desirable
- Tertiary level qualification in relevant field.
- Experience working in and/or with Cape York communities.
- Case management and/or student support skills or experience.
Evidence of Blue Card and Police clearance will be required if successful.
