Job Description

Millennium Services Group Ltd is currently seeking a highly experienced and highly motivated Security Supervisor for a large sized prestige retail shopping centre located in Canberra.

The Security Supervisor is a senior employee responsible for delivering the highest standards of both customer and security services in a dynamic work environment.

This role requires an experienced individual with excellent knowledge in site security, building management systems and fire control systems; and the application of standard operating procedures.

In addition to excellent communication skills and five star customer service attributes, the role requires the aptitude and knowledge to apply security risk and hazard management principles in the work environment. The ability to maintain strong working relationships with Centre Management and key stakeholders including local Police to deliver security strategies that meet the needs of the Centre, will be paramount to your success in this role.

The Primary Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for delivering on contractual obligations to client in accordance with site SOPs and lawful direction/s from Supervisor/Site Manager
  • Ensuring on-site Security Manual and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are regularly reviewed and adhered to at all times whilst on-duty
  • Follow workplace safety procedures and effect hazard management principles to mitigate risks
  • Participation in on-the-job training
  • Effective patrol of premises, including (if applicable) vehicular patrol
  • Respond to calls for assistance and respond to alarm events
  • Operate basic fire suppression equipment
  • Assess and respond to situations of risk
  • Monitor individual and crowd behaviour
  • Operate moving walkways, lifts, escalators and goods lifts
  • Operate installed security gates, barriers and bollards
  • Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques (where justified, authorised or excused by law and in accordance with site SOPs)
  • Provide and apply First Aid
  • Control persons using effective crowd control techniques
  • Manage conflict through negotiation, with critical abilities in using two-way interaction; non-judgmental and non-discriminatory language; and active listening techniques.
  • Implement effective strategies for engaging with young people
  • Implement effective strategies for engaging with intoxicated and drug-affected persons
  • Communicate effectively with all persons whilst on-duty
  • Use communication systems including portable two-way radios
  • Provide advice, directions and display a willingness to assist all persons whilst on-duty
  • Promote and maintain workplace health and safety
  • Participate in workplace safety arrangements
  • Report any OHS&E hazards or incidents identified in the workplace
  • Comply with work instructions & Group Integrated Management System (IMS) policies
  • Attend Tool Box chats and training sessions when required
  • Give evidence in Court (when required by law)
  • Liaise with Emergency Services during the course of duties (Police/Fire/Ambulance)
  • Provide regular contact with, and reports to, Supervisor/Site Manager

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Canberra Security Licence (Crowd Control)
  • CPP20212 – Certificate II in Security Operations
  • HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID002 Provide Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Current Open C Class drivers licence
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills applicable in a dynamic work environment
  • Aptitude to apply sound emergency response principles
  • Ability to work in small teams in the security industry
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivated
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in security operations
  • Retail security industry experience essential
  • High degree of personal grooming
  • Personable with excellent customer service attributes and the ability to engage stakeholders

Preferred non-essential:

  • BSB41415 - Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
  • CPP30411 Certificate III in Security Operations
  • The Security Supervisor will be required to work flexible shift hours, including weekends and gazetted Public Holidays in accordance with business and client requirements.
