The William Harvey Research Institute has three core strategic themes: Inflammation, Cardiovascular and Endocrinology with a mix of basic scientists and clinicians benefitting from strong links with Bart’s and The London NHS Trust. The research ethos is linking together bench to bedside research, with recent investments into a state-of-the-art campus based QMUL Lipid Mediator Unit, Flow Facilities, Microscopy Imaging equipment.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant funded by MRC to co-ordinate and drive a research project investigating the role of Phosphoinositol 3-kinases in innate immunity and inflammation. The project involves transgenic PI3K mutant mouse models and investigation of cell biological, immunological and molecular phenomenon underlying immune phenotypes associated with inflammatory bowel disease. The successful applicant will be part of the research team of Dr. Ezra Aksoy (http://www.whri.qmul.ac.uk/staff-all/staff-research/393-aksoy-ezra).

Essential

  • A PhD in immunology, molecular immunology, biochemistry or related medical sciences.
  • Experience in general cell signalling, molecular biology techniques and flow cytometry.
  • Experience working with mice and in vivo techniques.
  • Demonstration of scientific ability and excellence by means of authorship (first author) peer reviewed publications in internationally recognized scientific journals.

The full-time post is on the Research salary scale Grade 4 (starting salary will be in the range £32,405 - £42,431 per annum inclusive). The appointment will be for 12 months in the first instance extendable for a further two more years. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
