Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Functional Genomics of Immunity. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Functional Genomics of Immunity to join an established team with a track record of innovation and high impact research in the functional genomics of immunity led by Professor Julian Knight at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG).

We seek a postdoctoral researcher who is motivated by the opportunity to do outstanding science using recent advances in functional genomics involving induced pluripotent stem cells and genome editing applied to translational research questions. This will be a key component of an exciting new research programme to investigate the functional basis of extreme innate immune response phenotypes contributing to disease, building on our recent work in this area (Science 2014, Lancet Respiratory Medicine 2016). The goal is to advance understanding of the functional alleles driving such differences between individuals, their mechanism of action and their biological consequences in terms of gene regulation, pathophysiology and therapeutic opportunities. You will undertake laboratory work to investigate the functional genomics of the extreme innate immune response and the impact of genetic variation, leveraging the opportunities afforded by induced pluripotent stem cells and high-throughput screens using CRISPR and screening assays together with functional characterisation of specific genes and functional alleles to establish mechanism using appropriate molecular and functional genomic approaches.

You will hold a PhD, or in exceptional cases expected to obtain soon, in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field and a demonstrable interest in the research described here. You will have demonstrated excellence in molecular biology and functional genomics laboratory techniques. You will have sufficient specialist knowledge to be able to work independently, to identify major challenges and obstacles to the realisation of scientific objectives, and to set out strategies to overcome them. You will also have a strong publication record and motivation to work in a stimulating and ambitious research environment.

We are currently recruiting to three posts for this new programme including this position, a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Immunogenomics (vacancy ref. 130845) and a Research Assistant in Functional Genomics (vacancy ref. 130844). If you wish to be considered for any of these other posts please submit a separate application for the relevant post.

The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is fixed-term until 30 September 2022.

Please quote ref. 130843 on all correspondence. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 2 October 2017 can be considered.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from October 1 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
