About the company

Barker’s are looking for an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to join their manufacturing site which is still based on a corner of the original family farm in the South Canterbury town of Geraldine.

About the role
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager and managing a team of 6 you will be the quality and food safety lead for the company. As such you will oversee the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Systems for the Geraldine Factory, the warehouse and the Barker’s Shop and drive continuous improvement for their manufacturing practices and products. You will also be responsible for compliance to recognised local and international food standards such as HACCP and Australian New Zealand Food Standards Code and customer standards such as WQA, IFS, BRC etc.

In an organisation where cross functional communication and teamwork are vital, your customer focus, interpersonal skills and drive will be as important as your quality and compliance knowledge. You will be a strong negotiator and a confident decision maker.

Skills/ experience:
  
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following attributes:
  

• Tertiary science qualification with a major in food science, microbiology, chemistry or similar
• Minimum of 5 years QA experience within the food industry
• Highly effective communication and problem-solving skills
• Extensive experience with Quality/Food Safety systems
• Strong knowledge of HACCP and industry/customer requirements such as WQA, BRC, IFS
• Internal auditing experience and strong knowledge of NZ food legislation
• A passion for systems and high attention to detail
• Proven experience with staff leadership and development
