Our Litigation Department in Auckland is looking for a Solicitor with at least three years’ of commercial litigation experience.  You will work alongside Litigation Partners Simon Ladd and Jesse Wilson, and will be involved with work from other members of the Litigation Department.  You will be joining a team that has a comprehensive capacity to deal with complex commercial disputes.  The team’s specialisation encompasses the areas of corporate, competition, insurance, regulatory, construction and property, and general commercial dispute work.

• Great work: You will be involved in some of New Zealand’s most complex and major commercial litigation for some of New Zealand’s leading organisations.  Recent highlights for the team include:

• Acting for insurers defending proceedings brought by Lincoln University concerning repairs to campus buildings arising from the Canterbury Earthquakes.
• Acting for Cavalier in the successful defence of appeals brought by Godfrey Hirst in the High Court and Court of Appeal against the Commerce Commission's decision to authorise the merger of wool scouring firms.
• Acting for Vodafone in connection with its proposed merger with SKY.
• Acting for Ray White in the defence and resolution of proceedings by the Commerce Commission alleging price-fixing.
• Acting on the court-approved schemes of arrangement for Millennium & Copthorne and the acquisition of Nuplex.
• Acting for TOWER on its reinsurance claim arising from the Canterbury Earthquakes.
• Acting in a shareholder dispute trial in the High Court, and defending the successful trial judgment in the Court of Appeal.
• Acting in an arbitration over a substantial long-term supply contract, which ran to trial early this year.

• Opportunities for development and advancement in a busy litigation practice.
• Responsibility for directly running files.                                                                 

The successful candidate will have:

• 3 – 5 years of commercial litigation experience (applications from Judges’ Clerks are welcomed),
• Drive and determination,
• Strong academics and good judgement,
• The ability to roll your sleeves up and pitch in with the team,
• A sense of humour and well-rounded interests outside work.
