About the role

The vision of the New Zealand Artificial Limb Service (NZALS) is 'independent and productive lives for the people we care for'.  We are a Crown Entity that provides prosthetic, orthotic and rehabilitation services to patients across New Zealand.

With the patient at the centre of everything we do, NZALS' has a new strategy that will see a significant evolution in services to our patients.  This position will directly contribute to this strategy through prescribing and maintaining prosthetic limbs appropriate to the patient's needs and capabilities, a vital role in ensuring we deliver a world class service to all patients.

The Clinical Prosthetist will enhance the potential and independence of patients by prescribing and maintaining prosthetic limbs appropriate to the patient's needs and capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have the following skill set, (linked to the themes of our 2021 strategic plan):

  • Service – to prescribe and fit prosthetic and orthotic devices to enable patients to achieve their individual goals.  Actively participate in patient clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings to appropriately prescribe prosthetic and orthotic devices and contribute to your patient's rehabilitation plan.
  • Expert Workforce – the successful candidate will have a degree in prosthetics and orthotics or equivalent, (as defined by NZALS' Service Agreement with ACC) and will ideally be a member of NZOPA. Candidates are also required to have a minimum of ten years' experience as a Prosthetist and have substantial experience in manufacturing and repairing customised prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices.
  • R&D/Technology – you will have a passion for embracing technology and research to improve the patient experience and outcomes for patients; and a strong desire to continually improve processes and standards to gain operational efficiencies.
  • Equity – a desire to provide patients with access to technology and service based on need.

We are looking for a Clinical Prosthetist to be based in our Wellington Centre.  You will report directly into the Central Regional Manager and you will be required to also conduct some of the technical work required for your patients.
