ABOUT THE COMPANY

ABOUT THE ROLE

The coordinator works with a small team of counselors/social workers to support women with pre and post termination counselling and in managing grief associated with bereavement due to the loss of a baby. Reporting to the Charge Nurse Manager you will provide support with rostering and day-to-day co-ordination of allied health staff and the information they need to do their role. Acting as an advocate for your allied health colleagues you will represent them at management meetings and take on delegated tasks to support this team. The role also requires the provision of direct clinical care.

This is a permanent, part-time (0.8FTE / 32 hours per week) position.

DUTIES

  • Works within the team using counselling skills and techniques to sensitively support couple’s complex decision making with regard to termination
  • Provides day to day clinical coordination ensuring women are seen in a safe and timely manner.
  • Maintains competency to practice through identification of learning needs of her/himself and for the team
  • Promotes professional practise that is evidence based. Participates in local audits and research projects.
  • Works in partnership with medical, nursing/midwifery and administration teams to ensure a women’s journey through the service is as smooth as possible.
  • Works under the ‘Standards of Practice for the provision of Counselling’ Abortion Supervisory Committee April 1998.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 years’ experience with sexual health and or grief and loss counselling. Two years should have been spent in a health setting.
  • Understands and supports the principles of partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi and has a commitment to a bi-cultural code of practice.
  • Knowledge of modern contraception methods would be an advantage.
  • Awareness of and complies with the Acts of Parliament covering abortion and all other legislation applicable to the role.
  • Ability to role model effective communication to establish therapeutic relationships with women, the multi-disciplinary and wider health teams.
