Are you a procurement specialist or commercially savvy project manager looking to get involved in a large and complex project?

The Ministry of Defence is seeking a Commercial / Procurement Lead (internally we call this an Acquisition Lead) to join an integrated Ministry and New Zealand Defence Force project team on a fixed term basis for 2 years. These Integrated Project Teams define, develop, select and deliver major military equipment for the New Zealand Defence Force to meet government defence policy objectives. You will have responsibility for the commercial and acquisition activity for a large military capability project. You'll be responsible for a wide range of work from preparing RFPs/RFTs to evaluating them, negotiating and managing contracts. We are looking for someone with significant procurement experience, strong commercial awareness, business and financial acumen.

Our ideal candidate will also have:

• A proven track record in supporting project delivery for large, multi-faceted and complex projects
• Demonstrated ability to quickly identify and understand key technical, commercial and contractual issues and risks
• Experience providing advice on and implementing commercial strategy and procurement best practice
• Proven ability identifying and understanding complex conceptual issues and be solutions focussed
• An ability to collaborate with and influence others to achieve desired outcomes
• Sound judgment and the ability to identify and communicate matters that need to be brought to the attention of Defence decision makers
• A background sufficient to understanding military capability
• Experience in project management methodologies

A relevant tertiary qualification or project management qualification or extensive experience

Experience working successfully with international suppliers and contractors to deliver large scale complex projects would be an advantage.

Please note: While the Ministry is based in Wellington, the role holder will need to work across this office and in Trentham while delivering the first project. Flexibility around days and timings can be agreed with the manager.
