The School of Construction has a current vacancy for a full-time Carpentry tutor position.
Key responsibilities include course delivery and assessment, management of learning resources, and working as a productive member of a team. Teaching qualifications and experience are an advantage but not essential, however preference will be given to applicants with proven ability in teaching, coaching or mentoring youth or young adults.
Delivery sites include Rimutaka Prison as well as WelTec's Regional School of Construction in Petone. Applicants will be required to pass a Ministry of Justice Criminal Convictions Check to enable them to work at Corrections facilities.
Successful applicants without teaching qualifications will be supported to achieve the Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching or similar tertiary teaching qualification.
To be successful, you must have broad industry experience, supported by a qualification (i.e. New Zealand National Certificate or Trade Certificate in Carpentry). Applicants should be Licensed Building Practitioners or be capable of achieving licensed status and possess a current driver's licence. A reasonable level of IT capability in a business environment is also a requirement.
Essential personal attributes are physical fitness, open-mindedness and the ability and willingness to learn. If you are a good communicator, with a positive attitude towards teaching and supporting younger people and willing to make a strong contribution to a dedicated and friendly team in a progressive educational environment, you wouldn't want to miss this opportunity.
