Your new company
Everyday thousands of people travel in and out of New Zealand through Auckland Airport, opening our borders to a number of potential risks. At the frontline you'll play a key role in protecting and enhancing New Zealand, this is border protection with a smile.
As an Assistant Customs Officer you are the face of the NZ Customs Service, communicating to a wide range of people and ensuring a quality passenger experience. You will bring high levels of integrity, honesty and discretion to this role.
Your new role
As this is a part time position, you can plan your life around work, not work around your life. The part time hours are set between 5am-9am, or 2pm-6pm on a 6 day on, 3 day off roster.
The starting salary is $41,238 per annum. This is the full time salary, this will be pro-rata for part time hours.
When you have successfully completed the training this role involves:
- Facilitating passengers and goods in and out of NZ, to ensure they meet immigration requirements
- Recording notes and writing reports and where necessary escalating situations
- Processing passengers through Customs controlled areas;
- Ensuring passengers experience a seamless process through customs
Essentials for your new role
To be also considered for this role you will need:
- To be a NZ Citizen OR NZ Permanent Residency (*full context below)
- To have a full class 1 NZ motor vehicle drivers’ license
- To have a good level of fitness and physical ability so you can complete the full range of duties in the role.
*Working with Customs NZ requires you to be a New Zealand Citizen or hold New Zealand Permanent Residency who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years, OR Permanent Residency of New Zealand, who has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 5 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
In addition, you will be required to pass a pre-employment medical assessment, security check and drug test.
