  • Challenging and varied role
  • Strong team environment
  • Work with a range of Navy personnel
What you will do

This position is responsible for the delivery of Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Damage Control training at all levels within the RNZN. Responsibilities include practical training and assessments either as the lead trainer or as part of the instructional team.

You will also be responsible for a range of administrative elements regarding course documentation including the development of course content. Another aspect to the role requires management of an allocated area of responsibility within the Sea Safety Training Squadron including reporting of material state and defect capturing.

What we need

We are seeking a person with significant experience as an instructor in military firefighting and damage control. The role has a split of classroom based instruction (30%) and practical based instruction (70%). You will work with a range of RNZN personnel and professionals delivering training up to advanced course level. Typically learner numbers average 8-16 per course.

You will be joining a unit with a very strong team culture so it's essential you value a team approach in a respectful and professional working environment.

As an experienced instructor you excel in delivering training which complies with a set of standard operating procedures; you also have a good level of computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite.

This is a role with a people and learning focus that requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Although the planning and organisation of the courses is well constructed and efficient you will need to have strong time management skills yourself.

Due to the nature of the role a good degree of physical fitness is required, combined with a work place first aid certificate and ideally a recognised qualification in instruction.

Who we are

As part of the RNZN Leadership Development Group (LDG), the Sea Safety Training Squadron (SSTS) is responsible for the delivery of all formal theoretical and practical training in all aspects of Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear, Damage Control (CBRNDC), Firefighting and Sea Survival.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand. As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Why Us

Great opportunity to join a cohesive and collaborative team of training professionals who make a tangible difference to the Sea Safety Training Squadron and the wider NZDF.
