You will be working as part of a team delivering our education programme on youth rights to young people and those who work with them. You must be able to work effectively with a range of people from small groups in alternative education and youth justice, community group workshops, youth workers' meetings, right through to large school assembly presentations.
Crucially, you'll be able to demonstrate a commitment, enthusiasm and passion for education, young people and access to justice. In addition, the successful candidate will adopt a flexible approach to work hours, effectively time-manage and work well in a team.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have youth work experience and educational nous. Knowledge of basic legal principles will be advantageous, but more important will be the ability to learn quickly on the job. Links/networks with educational, social service or other community or not for profit groups would be beneficial. Experience working with or adapting resources to youth audiences to make the law accessible and engaging for young people would also be useful.
You will have a genuine interest and/or experience working with Māori in an educational setting, and have knowledge of/appreciation for the importance of tikanga and te reo Māori in an Aotearoa context.
The position is permanent, full time. Some hours may be worked at weekends and sometimes you may be required to travel away from home overnght. Our office is based in Auckland.
The successful candidate must not have disclosable criminal convictions or pending criminal charges which would be contrary to our values or purpose and must be willing to undergo a police check as a condition of employment. The successful candidate must also have the right to work in NZ.
