Avonside House Trust is a Ministry of Health accredited residential care provider for people with intellectual disability.  As part of this the Trust provides care to people whose needs have been assessed as requiring 24/7 residential care, supported living or respite care.  Currently the Trust (established 1975) is supporting 24 residents in modern community homes and units, and has plans to develop a complex housing individual studio apartments and space for vocational programmes.  Dedicated staff (20) support residents to lead fulfilling lives through developing their independence in daily living and increasing their ability to lead a healthy lifestyle through vocational, recreational and community activities.

Reporting to the Trust Board, the Service Manager is responsible for the day to day operations, the recruitment and development of staff (in particular two suitably qualified Residential Care Supervisors and their teams, and a Financial Administrator), financial performance within budget, property maintenance, service development, and most importantly overseeing the enhancement of daily living, social and health aspects of residents’ lives. An important part of the role that aligns with the Trust’s mission is ensuring that relationships are built and strengthened between residents, their family/whanau and the community.

The Service Manager, with support of the Trust Board, plays a key role in securing relationships with funders, in identifying additional funding opportunities that have the potential to support service innovation that meets the changing needs of the residents.

The Trust is seeking to appoint a Service Manager with leadership experience in the health or community services sectors. Formal qualifications in management or a health related discipline, or comparable business experience is required including financial, people and quality management aspects.  An understanding of intellectual disability, aged and/or mental health would be an advantage. The ability to lead and deal with complex situations in an empathetic, practical, and positive way is essential.

The Trust is focussed on outcomes and is therefore open to an employment arrangement with the Service Manager that is agile and flexible, with an overriding requirement for the appointee to work up to 35 hours per week.

Remuneration will be negotiated to attract exceptional, motivated and experienced candidates. For more information visit www.avonsidehouse.org.nz. Please email your CV and cover letter to Hamish Ott, Recruitment Consultant [email protected] or call him on 0274321172
