St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) provides an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara that includes acute adult and aged services, rehabilitation beds, community case management, homeless and intensive support teams as well as CL Psychiatry, crisis assessment and treatment and ED mental health and telephone triage services and state wide services.


About the Role

We are seeking experienced clinicians to join our Mental Health service, working across the Crisis, Triage, EDMH and MHaP(PACER) teams (Acute Response Service), providing acute assessment and treatment services for people with a broad range of mental health presentations. This multi-disciplinary team provides a range of clinical and therapeutic interventions using the recovery-focused Strengths Model of Recovery-Oriented practice.

This service provides 24 hour care on a 7 day roster.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree (minimum) in Nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Division 1 or 3.
  • Masters Degree or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology recognised by the Australian Psychological Society
  • Bachelor of Social Work (B.SW). Eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work
  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. Eligible for membership of Australian Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence.
  • Able to deliver comprehensive face to face and telephone assessments including mental state assessment, risk assessment and plan appropriate crisis interventions in the least restrictive environment to ensure that people in an acute phase of a mental illness receive high quality treatment
  • Triaging/screening referrals and determine eligibility for adult mental health program service, including prioritising responses in line with state triage guidelines
  • Conduct complex assessments in the community whilst being partnered with a police officer as part of MHaP (PACER) response initiative
  • Use your understanding and working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2014 and other relevant legislation to ensure least restrictive practice is the standard approach and consumers rights are protected
  • Have a clear awareness of the National Access Emergency Targets (NEAT) and how these are to be operationalised within ED’s
