We are looking for an enthusiastic and resilient person to draw on their lived experience of recovery from substance misuse, as a part time Peer Support Worker with the Alcohol and Other Drugs Team. You will help with the facilitation of community based services and outreach services in the areas of Whyalla, Port Augusta and Port Pirie. This position will require you to build relationships with clients, and assist them to achieve better health outcomes and lifestyle choices. The Alcohol and Other Drugs Program, is closely linked with the National Ice Strategy 2016.
Job tasks and responsibilities
- Assertively engage with people who have complex alcohol and other drug issues using your lived experience to build supportive and respectful relationships through being a positive role model.
- You must be willing to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of their recovery.
- Able to work with people of diverse, social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Skills and experience
- Lived Experience in the recovery from substance misuse with
- 12 months sobriety
- CIV in Alcohol & Other Drugs or willingness to work towards
- A demonstrated history as Peer Support Worker or Community Volunteer in a similar environment is desirable
