Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to work with its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department. The women’s Care Unit is a well-regarded Level 5 service with in excess of 1100 pregnant women every year.  The Special Care Nursery is a Level 4 Neonatal Unit providing specialist care to sick term and preterm neonates greater than 32 weeks’ gestation.

The position will be primarily located at Lismore Base Hospital, but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services, and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointment Advisory Committee (MDAAC), to other facilities in the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for Specialist registration in New South Wales for the above position at Lismore Base Hospital in NNSWLHD.

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and/ or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award).

The position requires sound Clinical Leadership including oversight and clinical supervision at both Lismore and Grafton Base Hospitals with a good working knowledge and experience in current Obstetrics and Gynaecology care. The duties involve the provision of support and development of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services and both a Consultation and Admission service for patients admitted to Lismore Base Hospital and will also provide an opportunity for teaching and research.

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional teaching hospital with a growing junior medical officer training program and strong links to Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and John Hunter Hospitals.  The Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health have a good student program providing for Medical Students from University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of NSW and University of Western Sydney.

The successful candidate must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award).

Selection Criteria

Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Must be registered prior to commencement Hold FRANZCOG and/or other specialist recognition as provided for under the Health Insurance Act 1973 with current contemporary knowledge, skills and experience in O&G Demonstrated leadership with strong analytical, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated effective clinical leadership with commitment to teaching and continuing education. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team as well as leading a team. Demonstrated experience in Health Management, policy development and planning Obstetrics and Gynaecology services with strong Human Resource Management skills and ability to maximise resources Current drivers licence and the ability to participate in an on call roster including after hours and weekend support
