Nulsen supports people with complex needs. We are one of Western Australia’s leaders in this field and we have a job for a dedicated and talented speech pathologist. We have a dynamic team of allied health professionals with a passion for providing excellent services to people with disabilities. We’re looking for a speech pathologist to provide a high level of services and support to adults and school age children with disabilities. You will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team and have the support of senior clinical staff in all areas of service delivery.

Reporting to the Senior Speech Pathologist, some of your duties will include:

  • Comprehensive communication and dysphagia assessment of people with disability across the lifespan
  • Planning, implementation, and evaluation of intervention for participants in order to maximise independence and quality of life in the areas of swallowing, verbal communication, augmentative and alternative communication, social skills and literacy
  • Working with families, carers, and other stakeholders to support participants to achieve agreed outcomes in accordance with their plan
  • Documentation of and reporting on intervention strategies
  • Contributing to initiatives related to areas such as clinical service delivery and continuous improvement
  • Prescribe and implement appropriate aids and equipment in accordance with the Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP) and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
  • Acting as a consultant through the provision of expert advice and information to residents, service users, families and staff as appropriate.

What you’ll need:

  • A Bachelor of Speech Pathology or approved equivalent, and practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia
  • Skills in assessing the communication and dysphagia requirements of people with disabilities, and the ability to make sound clinical decisions
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills including skills in delivering training programs
  • Initiative and great problem solving skills
  • An understanding of the rights of people with disabilities and a passion for inclusion, active support and promoting quality of life
  • Ability to travel to residential homes within the metropolitan area
  • The usual mandatories - A full Australian driver’s licence, a working with children check, a national police clearance less than three months old and a current First Aid certificate.

It would be great if you have experience with:

  • Supporting people with complex communication needs
  • Augmentative and alternative communication
  • Assessment and intervention for school age children with social communication impairments
  • Working in complex family and support systems
