About Department

9 East is a 24-bed surgical ward, caring for patients undergoing elective (joint replacement surgery) and emergency orthopaedic procedures. The unit facilitates trauma admissions and specialises in major bone tumour referrals and treatment of this patient group. In addition, the specialty provides dedicated beds for rheumatology, priding itself on maintaining a culture focused on the delivery of high quality patient care and continuous improvement.

About the Role

The Grade 2 Registered Nurse, under the guidance of the Nurse Unit Manager or Associate Nurse Unit Manager, will be responsible for the delivery of expert clinical care in his/her specific area. The Grade 2 Registered Nurse will be responsible for ensuring his/her own professional development in order to maintain clinical skills and knowledge.

Duties

  • Managing the physical and emotional well-being of the patient
  • Administration of medication in accordance with hospital procedures, protocols and policies
  • Assist with medical and diagnostic procedures carried out in the unit
  • Liaise with patient, patient’s family, medical and ancillary staff as required or requested
  • Participate in mentor / preceptorship programs

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in general nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Current Nursing Registration with AHPRA
  • Preferred experience in Orthopaedic Nursing
  • Communicate effectively, with patients and staff at all levels
  • Priorities tasks and activities to foster good time management
