Purpose of Position

The Urologist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Murnaghan Urological Centre.

SESLHD covers urban and suburban communities and manages  eight public hospitals and one public nursing home:

SESLHD also operates 28 Child and Family Health Centres, 12 Community Health Centres and nine Oral Health Clinics; providing prevention, early intervention and community-based treatment, palliative care and rehabilitation services.

Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Breast screening, HIV/AIDS, Public Health, Women's Health, Youth Health, Sexual Health, Imaging and Pathology services are provided at a number of facilities across SESLHD.

The position will be primarily located at Prince of Wales Hospital but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Clinical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

The Department of Urology at Prince of Wales Hospital seeks an appropriately trained VMO locum Urologist to assist in the management of urological services at the Prince of Wales Hospital campus. The candidate would be responsible for care of urological inpatients and outpatients and provision of acute services and on call duties as designated by the department. The person would be responsible for supervision and training of accredited advanced urological trainees, junior medical staff and medical students where appropriate. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. General urological endoscopic and open urological surgical skills are mandatory and the candidate should have post fellowship training in robotic assisted surgery and laparoscopic skills to enable participation in the departments renal transplant donor surgery programme.

The Murnaghan Urology service is part of the Prince of Wales Hospital campus. The hospital is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of NSW. The unit is presently staffed by 4 VMOs and is an accredited advanced urological training post to 2 trainees on a rotational basis. The department provides full urological services including general urology, voiding disorders, uro-oncology, stone disease and urological reconstructive surgery

The position will be primarily located at Prince of Wales Hospital but may be varied as agreed.

 

The successful candidate may be eligible for a conjoint appointment to the Prince of Wales Clinical School with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine.  The level of the appointment will be determined by qualifications and experience.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with Public Hospitals Visiting Medical Officer Sessional contract.

Selection Criteria

1. Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and demonstrated subspecialty training in Urology 2. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position 3. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality Urology services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty 4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital 5. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriates as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical and dental staff 6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites 7. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting 8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
