The Senior Counsellor maintains a direct treatment and prevention focus with the aim of reducing harm associated with AOD use. Additionally, the Senior Counsellor supports the delivery of a professional AOD service by providing appropriate levels of supervision for volunteer counsellors and any other positions as directed by the Clinical Coordinator or Service Manager.
The Senior Counsellor offers clinical guidance, support and informal leadership to the NMCADS team, particularly when the Service Manager and Clinical Coordinator are absent. This role is responsible for delivering culturally secure alcohol and drug services (AOD) such as informal counselling, education and support to the individuals and families engaging in our service.

Salary level 4 – 5 $67,310 – $79,500 (per annum, pro rata)

The successful candidate will possess:
- A degree in social, behavioural or health sciences or equivalent experience in the alcohol and drug sector.
- Ability to provide assessment, counselling, referral as well as AOD information and support to all consumer groups as appropriate.
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and provision of clinical supervision to staff.
- Experience working with consumers with complex AOD and mental health issues.
- Experience in working with consumers from diverse backgrounds and different cultural groups.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including after normal office hours, as required for comprehensive service delivery.
- The ability to adapt to varying working environments in the delivery of outreach
- Demonstrated and well developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
- Ability to design and deliver educational group sessions as required in order to promote confidence and skills development to support lifestyle change and address offending, addiction behaviours.
- A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to take appropriate individual and team responsibility.
- Current Police clearance and First Aid Certificate.
- Current “C’ class driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
