Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic Physician Trainees to join Austin Health in 2019 as a General Medical Registrar (BPT3).

Details of position/position requirements

Approximately 45 positions are available in the Physician Training program at BPT3 level for 2019.  Successful applicants will rotate through general and specialist medical units at Austin Health, Northern Health, Bendigo Health and Wimmera Healthcare Group.

The Central North West Consortium offers comprehensive support across all years of the PREP program with all rotations accredited by the RACP. A training program to support trainees preparing for the written and clinical RACP examinations has been implemented across all sites within the consortium.   The Clinical Exam preparation program includes Strategic Saturday Program, multiple mock clinical exams, specialty mock clinical exams in Neurology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology and Abdominal, practice long and short case presentations, logbook for long and short cases, video playback of presentations for personal review and professional development weekends.  Applicants for PGY3 positions intending to complete the RACP examination process will be given priority for subsequent appointment to PGY4 positions the following year to enable optimal allocation of rotations and facilitate exam preparation for trainees. To be successful in this role you must:

  • Have completed a minimum three years of post-graduate medical experience
  • Have two years accredited training completed with RACP as a BPT (desirable)
  • Have current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) of Australia 
  • Exhibit dedication to delivering excellent service – to patients, all colleagues (nursing, medical, managerial, support staff), GPs and other contact points
