The Information and Support Line Officer is a recognised 'Career at Bravehearts' entry level position, and we are looking for two part-time employees to join the team on a 6 month fixed-term contract, 2 days per week. As Bravehearts frontline service for the community, you will be the first point of contact for our service to help identify and address caller's needs. The role collects relevant information pertaining to children, young people, adults and families who have been affected by, or at risk of being affected by child sexual assault, and who would like to undertake counselling at Bravehearts or access our Case Management services who needs to be referred to a more suitable service.

The role also acts as a referral point to other services provided by Bravehearts including Education and Training as well as other enabling functions of the Bravehearts organisation.

The role will:

  • Answer all phone calls and enquiries in a professional manner.
  • Provide accurate information to prospective clients about services offered both internally and outside of Bravehearts service scope and operational locations.
  • Provide clear and accurate information about the National Redress Scheme to clients who have experienced Institutional Child Sexual Abuse.
  • Telephone screening callers for suitability to the Bravehearts counselling and case management services.
  • Assessing level of risk for callers and reporting information about callers to relevant authorities e.g. Child Protection authorities, Health professionals, Police (as per Bravehearts Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting policies).

Bravehearts training will be provided to successful applicants who meet the criteria below.

  • On your way to completing or completed University level graduate qualification in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work or a related field is essential.
  • Experience in, and ability to effectively communicate therapeutically by telephone with callers who may present in a heightened emotional state.
  • An understanding of the issues of people impacted by child sexual assault.
  • An understanding of working within a mandatory reporting practice.
