Project Accountant

An opportunity has become available for an experienced AO6 PROJECT ACCOUNTANT to join a dynamic and busy team within an integral Government Department. Based in Brisbane CBD, this role is to commence end of July for a 12 month contract.
The project accountant would work as a core member of the Investment & Performance Management Team and to provide financial support within specific projects, reporting to the Principal Investment and Performance Officer.
Key Accountabilities of the Role:
- Provide expertise and advice to contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of financial accounting procedures and systems
- Effectively perform financial accounting and reporting functions within a project funded environment including monthly external reporting
- Oversee projects and processes relating to budgets, financial performance information and financial business improvement
- Provision of costing and pricing assistance for strategic initiatives and internally funded projects
- Have well developed experience of a complex funding environment and an ability to liaise with project teams and representatives from partner agencies
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of financial legislation, standards and policies to provide timely and accurate financial accounting advice to management
- Work effectively in a professional working environment that encourages staff commitment, continuous improvement and innovation, seeking challenges, developing skills and achieving results
- Establish and maintain strong communication on financial matters with key stakeholders
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- A degree in Accounting or Business, and excellent analysis skills is highly desirable
- Experience with SAP and high level Excel skills and costing tools
- Experience in project accounting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of ICT industry or ICT data is highly desirable.
