Employee Relations Leader

BMS is seeking a Regional Employee Relations Lead to support and oversee ER matters in multiple countries across APAC including Australia, China and Japan. This is a newly created role with scope to define the delivery of ER services across APAC in alignment with the global model. You will build robust working partnerships with the global employee relations team, business leaders, HR leaders and legal counsel to drive employee relations excellence aligned with company policies and procedures.

In this role you will identify employee relations trends, recommend solutions, minimise risk, coach employees and managers, investigate matters and drive an ethical culture. This is a working management role with the responsibility of managing a small regional team and mid to high complexity ER matters.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage a team of Employee Relations Specialists.
  • Conduct investigations and cases of employee relations issues such as: disciplinary actions, legal issues (harassment, discrimination, leave, accommodations, etc.), performance management and conduct management.
  • Provide counsel and facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace conflict to address issues for employees, managers, and leaders in a manner consistent with BMS policies, practices and legal considerations. Utilize various conflict management techniques, including training, mediation, conflict coaching.
  • Consult and coach People Leaders on employee relations, performance management, reorganization, and organizational effectiveness issues spanning all levels within the organization. Provide advice and counsel on HR practices, policy, and employment laws.
  • Partner with HR Law department in conducting investigations, research policies/practices, create and gather documentation, make recommendations and implement resolutions when applicable.
  • With respect to certain company locations, provide referrals to outside providers for assistance and oversee handling of the Employee Relations issue.
  • Identify best practices and design innovative solutions to influence continuous improvement in the organization.
  • Conduct employee relations risk assessments and provide actionable feedback.
  • Design and implement ER training and coaching of managers on skills and techniques.
  • Participate in the identification of employee relations trends and partner on identifying solutions and building manager and organizational skills.
  • Develop effective relationships with the business to promote good employee relations across the organization.
  • Interact with HR Business Partners, and other HR functions, to ensure a high level of employee satisfaction & engagement and appropriately plan, facilitate and monitor employee programs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality throughout conversations and investigations. Manage highly confidential human resources information and exercise sound judgment in handling or working with confidential data and situations.
  • Ensure that the Company operates within current and local employment law to maintain reputation as a good employer.
  • Maintain strong business acumen while maintaining objectivity in work.
  • Required to work with several different People Leaders, HR Business Partners and several different parts of BMS business units. Must be able to manage multiple projects and cases at any given time.
  • Some travel may be required. Will work with remote locations frequently via phone.

Essential Experiences, Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Employee Relations experience with advanced degree in Law, Human Resources or Employee Relations
  • Experience managing a HR and/or Employee Relations team preferred (size not relevant)
  • Full lifecycle experience overseeing low to high complexity ER matters across multiple countries
  • Fluent in English with Mandarin and/or Japanese and/other APAC language advantageous
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in case management systems
  • Demonstrable leadership, customer service and partnering skills
